charity: water – Project 5, Niger Has Begun

An image showing the logo of charity: waterIn August, Premier Water funded our next water project with charity:  water.  Here is what charity: water told us about the region:

“Niger has over three billion cubic meters of drinkable water available underground, but few can afford to build systems to bring it to the surface. Located in the Sahel, one of the harshest contexts in the world, Niger is prone to droughts, floods, political instability, and extremist violence.

Maradi Region, where we partner with World Vision Niger, is home to over 3.8 million people and is the 2nd most populated region in Niger. Many people access their drinking water through unimproved sources, like unprotected open wells. Low sanitation coverage rates in this part of Niger make effective WASH programming is especially important.”

Working with Word Vision Niger, the amount we funded will be used to construct a new well with a hand pump.  We should be getting an update on the progress of this project this month, and we are looking forward to sharing that with you.
